A Collaborative Effort: Our trial brings together the expertise of multiple centers across Switzerland. In addition to Bern, six other centers are participating: Aarau, Basel, Geneva, Lugano, Lucerne, and St. Gallen. 🤝​

About the Space Shield Trial: The Space Shield trial is a randomized-controlled multicenter phase III study that aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a space-expanding shield in decompressive hemicraniectomy (DCE) for stroke. 🧠 Our objective is to analyze clinical and radiological outcomes of a single-stage DCE using a space shield, comparing it to the standard two-stage approach of DCE followed by cranioplasty (CP).​

We hypothesize that the single-stage strategy with the space-expanding shield will be non-inferior to the current standard treatment regarding functional outcomes.
